The publication of ‘Innovation Districts and Collaboration Spaces’ is potentially the start of an exploration of the role that HE institutions can play in the development of innovation districts. The publication includes thought leadership on innovation district curation and the relationships required between public and private bodies to create conditions for success. There is an excellent piece by Philip Dyer than outlines the challenges and ambition for the Innovation District in South Yorkshire and this is supported by case studies for individual projects across a range of universities provided by University Design Forum members.

The ambition is that this document will educate and inspire those involved in the development of innovation districts, but perhaps most importantly, it is provided to stimulate feedback and debate and to generate ideas for further research in this area.
