The Roentgen Building at Bocconi University in Milan, designed by Grafton Architects

Designed by Grafton Architects, winners of the international competition launched by Bocconi University, the building (2003–2008) redefines the relationship between campus and city. Its striking forms, suspended volumes, and diffuse natural light create a sense of openness and levity. The floors, hung by steel cables from roof beams, seem to float, generating dynamic, light-filled spaces. A large continuous glass window—the “window on Milan”—connects the Aula Magna foyer with the street, symbolizing dialogue between the University and its urban context. Clad in Milan’s characteristic ceppo stone, the structure combines local material tradition with contemporary architectural vision.
