LSE Centre Building – an in depth look at sustainable design
Planned to be the location for the HEDQF Annual Conference, RSHP won an RIBA competition to design LSE’s Centre Building in 2013. This gave RSHP an opportunity to design a building to reflect the values of LSE, achieve BREEAM “Outstanding”, delivering innovative and inspirational teaching spaces including a new prototype ‘LSE style’ lecture theatre, and providing departmental space to encourage collaboration and dialogue between departments. Key to the project was the creation of a substantial new public square at the heart of the LSE campus.
Aude@25
A short film celebrating twenty-five years of university estates development in the UK produced by the Higher Education Design Quality Forum for the Association of University Directors of Estates on the 25th anniversary of their founding in 1992. The film had a royal premier at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Business School on 10th April 2017 in the presence of HRH The Duke of York.
Resurrection
A film by Rod McAllister and William Pine for HEDQF. Supported by AUDE and Sheppard Robson. The subject is the conversion of existing buildings for use in Higher Education. The production highlights six examples with interviews of those involved. The issues raised by the film include increasing sustainability, contributing to regeneration and community, saving threatened building of architectural or historical merit, refocusing universities on city centres or providing universities with rural outposts.
ReVision
What are universities for? Where are they going? How is their quality measured? Is this achieved by design or evolution? These are some of the questions to be put to key university figures in the UK in a short digital movie by the RIBA’s Higher Education Design Quality Forum. The point of view comes from an uncertainty about the future. Short-term funding cuts and long-term shifts in expectation and technology contribute to this uncertainty. How will the sector develop to enhance the quality of the university experience whilst providing higher education?
small budget BIG IMPACT!
A Royal Institute of British Architects Higher Education Design Quality Forum film about eight UK university architecture and engineering projects display imagination and innovation with a small budget to deliver a big impact.
Out of the Box
A short film showcasing some European universities and how they are distinguishing themselves with radical architecture, design and branding. To achieve their ambition, many have reinvented the academic workplace. Produced, directed and presented by Rod McAllister; filmed and edited by William Pine; on behalf of HEDQF; for AUDE; supported by Osbourne and Sheppard Robson.
