This years Student Prize was a design research collaboration with Diploma / Masters Students from the School of Architecture at Glasgow School of Art and Andy McFee of the University Design Forum.

University Design Forum awarded £3,000 in Prize Money and Euan and Cara presented their projects at our 2024 Annual Conference. 

1st Prize: £1,000 - Euan Clarke
‘Datascape’ An exceptional, futuristic project proposing individual ownership and re-valuation of personal data to empower and fund transformed local democracy. Manifest with an elegant 1.5km long architectural landmark data centre and regional parliament in Aygalades Park, Marseilles. 

2^nd Prize: £800 - Jamie Begg
An excellent, sensitive and sophisticated project dealing with mental health and education. Elegant new buildings and spaces for living and learning are integrated into a city block in need of regeneration. Highly relevant to student residential or University college typologies.

3rd Prize: £600 - Sophie Emmerson
‘Material Passports’ A very well-researched and thoughtful written Thesis, proposing the progressive use of building data to enable a sustainable circular economy of building materials and components. Including ideas for demountable architectural components for certification and re-use in future buildings.

4th Prize: £400 - Cara Taggart
‘Neighbourhood of Play’ A delightful community focused education project. A grid of colourful mini-towers, pavilions and landscape help regenerate a residential neighbourhood by providing a new type of educational space for young children. Interestingly, the integrated urban typology seems equally
relevant to a university campus. 

5^th Prize £200 - Ain Youn
A good new build design project dealing with the relocation of an existing suburban Art School to a much smaller, very prominent but difficult development site in central Marseilles.


In addition there were two honorable mentions:

Tamsin Dodd
An attractive adaptive re-use and extension project. Championing female spatial agency and safety in a challenging urban environment. The project creates pleasant new places for education, work and childcare.

Mstislav Kochin
A detailed written thesis, extensively illustrated on the subject of generative AI architectural imagery. Focused on Machine Learning from the Internet dataset of architectural images with current software.
